In the Books[]

In the books Frankie Brown(e) is born in 1954 in Dublin to Agnes and Redser Brown(e). In ‘The Mammy’ Frankie is mentioned to be Agnes’ favourite. When Frankie was in his late teens he used to hang out with a homophobic skinhead gang. Frankie would also often miss school to gamble, he got expelled. Agnes threatened to kick him out the house unless he got a job. Frankie and his skinhead group would often beat up homosexuals, once they all beat up Frankie’s brother Rory, Frankie didn’t realise it was him. Frankie ran away to London (taking the £300 Agnes won at bingo with him). Mark’s boss Mr. Wise had a son called Manny living in London who was a drug dealer (Mr. Wise hated him), Manny was rich from drug dealing. Frankie ended up working for him, (however Frankie said his name was Ben Daly). Frankie ended up robbing thousands from Manny, Manny never saw him again (Manny was eventually caught and arrested for all the bad things he did). Frankie wasted the fortune he had robbed pretty quickly, he ended up homeless and died of hypothermia and starvation on the streets in the late 1970s.

In the Movie ‘Agnes Browne’[]

In ‘Agnes Browne’ Frankie is 13 and is portrayed by Ciaran Owens. Frankie skips school to play cards. In the film Frankie plays a much bigger role compared to the ‘The Mammy’ (the book the movie was based on). Frankie borrows money off the untrustworthy Mr Billy, Frankie fails to return the money, however the Brownes get £25 from Redser’s Union, this is used to pay Mr Billy.

The Original Series[]

In the original ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, Frankie is mentioned in the episode ‘Triple Trouble’ when Mark tells Dermot what Redser left him that he cherishes and proceeds to list all of his brothers and sister. Frankie is also indirectly mentioned in the same episode when Cathy complements Maria on how good she looks even after having triplets and Agnes says ‘I had seven children and look at me’.
